Cm’s Opinion On Dth May Decide Tn’s Future Film Policies
The release of Kamal Hassan’s Vishwaroopam on January 11 in theatres is still hanging in the balance with many people and parties taking opposing stands on the issue. While the battle rages on there is one person, who is eagerly looking forward to the release of the film. It is none other than the former actress and present Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu Smt Jayalalitha.
The buzz says that she is very curious about ‘Vishwaroopam’ and has asked Kamal to organize a special screening for her. She has seen the movie in bits and pieces and is keen to watch the multilingual flick. Since she is a former actress herself and present Chief Minister she may also want to assess the impact that such a move will have on the state’s exchequer. Revenues to the state via collection of entertainment tax will be easier and it will be virtually impossible for the service providers to cook the books and under report revenues.
However, she may watch the movie only on or after January 10, as the production bosses do not want to have the screening before the official release date. It is well known that Kamal Hassan and Jayalalitha share a good relationship. However, the actor is clever enough not to flaunt his association with the present Chief Minister. Kamal however confirmed that Smt Jayalalitha had expressed her interest in viewing “Vishwaroopam’. On its part, the ‘Vishwaroopam’ unit is happy to shown the forthcoming film to Jayalalitha. Meanwhile, the opposition by the Tamil Nadu Cinema Theatres Association continues for this film that also feature’s Pooja Kumar, Rahul Bose and Andrea Jeremiah in important roles. The exhibitor’s have decided to stop the release of the movie in theatres across the entire state. Let us see who wins.
