Is Meera Kathirvan banking on gimmicks to sell?
Doing gimmicky things like shooting an entire movie in one day or in one night is no guarantee that the crowds are going to come to see it. After all why should they care whether the movie was done at one stretch or not? But still directors try these things just to stand out in the crowd of new releases. Recently a movie directed by Meera Kathiravan titled Vizhithiru is nearing completion. In this film the story takes place over just one night. That gives the director scope for intelligent filmmaking. The movie features Kreshna, Abhinaya and Dhansika and is all about four people from different walks of life and the events that connect them all together on this one night. The movies was shot entirely in Chennai and as one of the production assistant said it is worth seeing this movie at least once for new filmmakers to understand how such a complex shoot can be accomplished with meticulous planning. There were a few scenes for example that needed to be shot in the busy streets in the city so shooting after the traffic and noise subsided at night work towards their advantage. The unit used to shoot until late at night and start early in the morning. Very often they shot through the entire night and then wrapped up and went home. Venkat Prabhu has also done a supporting role, as has T Rajendar in a cameo song. All in all it promises to be an intriguing film. Lets hope this one gimmick turns out to be good.
