Is Shankar’s ‘I’ inspired by ‘Running on Karma’?

The unit of Shankar’s ‘I’ recently returned from China after completing an action packed 45-day schedule. Now, it is learnt that the forthcoming Tamil film is loosely inspired by a 2003 Chinese movie. The buzz says that Shankar’s ‘I’ is a remake of ‘Running on Karma’. The film starred Andy Lau, Cecilla Cheung and Cheung Siu-Fai in important roles and was directed by Johnnie To and Wai Ka-Fai.
It is a story about a monk, who has the gift to look into the past of others’. The monk turned-body-builder uses his skills to catch a murderer and helps a female cop. The early report on the character played by Vikram in ‘I’ revealed that the actor will be seen in the role of an ordinary man with a lean body in the first half and then with chiseled six-pack abs in the second half.
Reports say that Shankar has tweaked the script to suit the tastes of our audiences. On his website, the director had earlier said, “The title ‘I’ means beauty, king, guru, astonishment, vulnerability (softness/gentleness), etc.”
The film stars Vikram and Amy Jackson in the lead. Oscar Award winner AR Rahman is composing the music and PC Sriram is handling the camera. The interesting part is that Shankar has roped in some well-known technicians from Hollywood to work on this project.
