The Fight Over ‘Vishwaroopam’ Over At Last
The confrontation seems to have been averted. The imminent clash of Kamal and the theatre owners in Tamil Nadu has been averted with both sides agreeing to a compromise formula. The Tamil film will officially hit the screens first on January 25 and it will only then be aired on DTH. It has been agreed that the DTH release will happen on the fourth day after its theatrical release. The meeting between Kamal Hassan and the Tamil Nadu Theatre Owners Association (TNTOA) and the Confederation of Theatre Owners and Distributor’s Associations ended on a good note.
The film will have it’s DTH premiere on January 28. Keeping the business interests of distributors and theatres in mind, the decision was taken at the meeting. The inside news was that theatre owners urged Kamal Hassan to release the film on DTH after three weeks of its theatrical release. That was considered simply too long a delay by Kamal who said that the very impact of DTH release would be lost. However, with the intervention of Abhirami Ramanathan and Paneerselvam, the issue was solved. In a dramatic turn of events, Kamal Hassan’s prestigious ‘Vishwaroopam,’ which was supposed to release on January 11, was postponed to January 25.
