The first look of Sivakarthikeyan’s upcoming Tamil science-fiction film Ayalaan has been released. In the poster, Siva introduces his friend from another world. Tipped to be a film centered on a lost alien who finds a friend in Sivakarthikeyan’s character, the film has been directed by Ravi Kumar.
Rumoured to have been shelved a year ago, Ayalaan was revived after it went back on the floors last week. 24 AM Studios, the makers of the film, recently shared a picture from the sets and wrote on its Twitter page: “Happy to have kick started the last two schedules of our production no 5 after a brief gap; starring Sivakarthikeyan and directed by Ravi Kumar. Thanks to all those who supported us throughout.”
The film features Rakul Preet Singh as an astronomer. If everything goes as planned, the film will hit the screens next year. Isha Koppikar, who returns to Tamil cinema after two decades, will be seen playing an assassin in the movie.
Talking about her character, Isha told Times of India: “It’s a femme fatale role, something that I’ve always been waiting for. It is full of action, and I love the Lara Croft kind of roles. I think I have that kind of a strong image and this role falls completely in my scheme of things. I always believe that there cannot be an effective protagonist without a strong antagonist. In this, Sivakarthikeyan is the protagonist and I am the antagonist. For me, it is a fantastic opportunity; especially an actress gets to play such a role opposite such a huge star.”
Ravikumar had spent over a year on the film’s pre-production. The film took a lot of time to materialise due to the exhaustive research work. It has already been confirmed that the film will have music by double Oscar-winning composer AR Rahman, who has even agreed to croon the opening song of the album.
Recently, Sivakarthikeyan revealed that he has decided to forego his remuneration for the project. He also confirmed that he will reunite for Ravi Kumar for another project to make up for the time lost on this project. Last seen on screen in superhero film Hero which bombed at the box-office, Sivakarthikeyan also has Tamil comedy Doctor in his kitty.
Doctor is a Tamil action comedy movie, written and directed by Nelson Dhilipkumar. The movie stars Sivakarthikeyan and Priyanka Arul Mohan of Telugu movie Gangleader fame in the lead roles. Yogi Babu and Vinay have been roped in for supporting roles in the movie. The movie produced by Sivakarthikeyan’s SK Productions and co-produced by Kalai Arasu.
The film’s music composed by Anirudh Ravichander, while cinematography and editing are handled by Vijay Karthik Kannan and R Nirmal, respectively.
It would appear that Vijay Sethupathi is taking the Vijay route in films he plays the lead, championing causes of the poor and taking on the administration.
Ka Pae Ranasingam, the actor’s upcoming film, and the trailer to which was uploaded to YouTube on Saturday, resembles his previous film Sangathamizhan (with respect to the broad plot of fighting for a cause) minus the bits that heavily influenced Sangathamizhan’s poor reviews at the box office.
The trailer begins in a courtroom where a judge is set to pronounce a verdict based on the facts and arguments made on a case.
We hear Vijay Sethupathi next; his comment: “Gone are the days when politics was played on the basis of caste and religion. Politics of the future will be for air and water.” We see a shot of Aishwarya Rajesh, and she is getting married (presumed to be Vijay Sethupathi’s character) and the next shot has her looking forlorn with a child in her hands.
Kaan (aka) Simbu’s Kaan is a Tamil action romantic movie direction by Selvaragavan. Simbu plays the male lead role while Catherine Treasa and Tapsee Pannu play in female lead roles. The music of the this movie will be composed by Yuvan Shankar Raja, who had done many successful movies with both Simbu and Selvaragavan.
Earlier, the production house announced that Trisha will ne doing female lead later she opted out of the film, citing date issues.
Taapsee would play a bold Police role and Simbu will be seen as a lord Karthikeya’s devotee.
Danny is what you might get when you have vague notions of what a murder mystery is but no clue of scriptwriting. The film is a masterclass in bad writing. Things happen in this film just because the director wills them to happen. There is no organic development of the scenes. Take the scene in which Kunthavai (Varalaxmi Sarathkumar), a newly promoted cop, is being thanked by the mother of a man who has been arrested on charges of murdered his young wife. The scene happens in Kunthavai’s house, in the day, and the camera pans inside to show us her sister Mathi proudly smiling. And the very next moment, we see the two sisters somewhere outside, at night, and a duo on a bike attacking them. This hop-skip-jump approach to scenes is not just disorienting (purely unintended, though), but also lays bare the paucity of imagination.
What we get in Danny are plot points instead of storytelling. Scene 1: Introduce the dog. Scene 2: Introduce the dog handler. Scene 3: The crime. Scene 4: Kill he dog handler. Scene 5: Introduce the protagonist. Scene 6: Make protagonist investigate the murder. Scene 7: Clue No 1. So on and so forth. While this approach might seem decent enough, what goes missing is how the scenes play out, and how smoothly they flow into one another. The same approach goes for the characters — cop who believes in justice rather than upholding the law; an innocent sister who has to die so that the investigation feels personal; a dog who is a sidekick; an antagonist who is a druggie; comedians who pop up trying (vainly) to make us laugh… We hardly care about any of these characters, even more so because none of them is developed beyond what their one-line description sounds like.
The director seems to have left it to his lead actress to make this simplistic writing work. But Varalaxmi, who looks the part, cannot do much because her character isn’t fleshed out well. Moreover, the filmmaking is equally basic. We get re-enactments of the murders just so the director can wring some sympathy out of us. But the problem is that even by the 15th minute, the viewer is already busy trying to solve a mystery of their own — the mystery of the lost interest? And they do not even have a dog to sniff it out!
A couple of days back, it was announced by Lokesh Kanagaraj, who directed Karthi starrer Kaithi that the film has been selected for a special screening at the International Indian Film Festival Toronto, and the news took over the internet. Now, the director of the recently released film Oh My Kadavule took to his Twitter space and announced that the film is also getting a special screening at the International Indian Film Festival Toronto.
Sharing the news on social media, the director Ashwanth Marimuthu wrote on the micro blogging website, “Okay guys !! First film first international recognition !! Very content ! Congrats to my entire team of cast and crew !! 🙂 thanks to the audience !! :)”. The romcom hit the big screens on Valentine’s Day and it also marked the directorial debut of Ashwath Marimuthu. The film has Ashok Selvan and Irudhi Suttru actress Ritika Singh playing the lead roles with popular television star Vani Bhojan in a key supporting role.
