Space Sweepers

Space Sweepers, the new South Korean sci-fi flick streaming on Netflix, is so much more than the quaint title suggests.

Directed by Jo Sung-hee, Space Sweepers is Netflix’s first Korean sci-fi endeavor set in outer space. With the inclusion of likably offbeat characters and plenty of aesthetically satisfying visuals, the film successfully paints a colorful dystopian landscape.

The film’s simple and endearing premise paired with a self-aware yet campy execution makes for a wonderfully unique sci-fi experience. Right off the bat, Space Sweepers is presumably a bit different from what most fans of K-horror/drama have come to expect.

As the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic continues to plague the world, the usage of masks remains a divisive issue. So WarnerMedia has issued a PSA featuring both its heroes and villains masking up.

Joaquin Phoenix’s neo-iconic staircase scene from Joker, a fight scene featuring Gal Godot’s Wonder Woman, and Bill Skarsgård’s sinister Pennywise all make brief appearances in a 30-second video tweeted by the entertainment company. The scenes are all modified to show the characters wearing masks.

Spider-Verse 2

A new rumor suggests that a lesser-known Spider-Man villain could factor into the Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse sequel.

On its What We Heard This Week segment, Murphy’s Multiverse reported that the C-list villain known as the Spot may play a key role in the story. Murphy’s Multiverse said that it was working to confirm the report with another source, and that the rumor should be taken with a grain of salt.

Zack Snyder’s 300

Zack Snyder’s 300 is celebrating its 15th-anniversary, which makes it a great time to look at how the film differs from actual historical events.

Zack Snyder’s adaptation of Frank Miller’s 300 is now 15 years old, and while’s it’s a great adaptation of the comic, it’s a completely inaccurate retelling of the Battle of Thermopylae and of Spartan history as a whole.

300 is a visually appealing film, with detailed animation and great production design, but that doesn’t stop it from rewriting history. Now that it’s celebrating its 15th anniversary this year, let’s go over just how exactly Snyder’s film changes history and the true story of the Battle of Thermopylae.

Soul’s Soundtrack

A technicality almost kept Disney/Pixar’s Soul from getting a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Original Score.

Disney/Pixar’s Soul made it onto the Oscars shortlist for recognition as a Best Original Score nominee, but only after an exception was made for the amount of its musical content.

The Music Branch of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences requires the music in a Best Original Score nominee to be no less than 60 percent original music composed specifically for the film, Deadline reports. Many films get disqualified because some of their music originally appeared elsewhere or because they come short of the 60 percent requirement.
