A technicality almost kept Disney/Pixar’s Soul from getting a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Original Score.

Disney/Pixar’s Soul made it onto the Oscars shortlist for recognition as a Best Original Score nominee, but only after an exception was made for the amount of its musical content.

The Music Branch of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences requires the music in a Best Original Score nominee to be no less than 60 percent original music composed specifically for the film, Deadline reports. Many films get disqualified because some of their music originally appeared elsewhere or because they come short of the 60 percent requirement.

She also has bags under eyes, which is a key facial characteristic that she shares with super suit designer and family friend, Edna Mode. Because of this, the theory suggests that the resemblance is due to Edna being Violet’s birth mother.

At this point, it’s a tried-and-true adage that if a filmmaker wants to receive awards attention, they should make a movie about the Holocaust. Undeniably, there have been some outstanding films about the Holocaust over the years, such as Schindler’s List and The Pianist, that interrogate and thoughtfully examine the tragedy of this historical event. But that leaves many, many more that seem to exist for cynical reasons. Unfortunately, despite being Serbia’s official selection for the Oscar’s International Film race this year, Dara of Jasenovac falls into the latter category.

The film is told largely from the perspective of the title character, a 10-year-old Serbian girl named Dara Ili? (Biljana ?eki?), who along with her mother and two brothers is taken to a concentration camp complex called Jasenovac in Croatia during World War II. Unlike the other concentration camps across Europe that were run by Germans, Jasenovac was run by Croatia’s fascist Ustaše government, and while they imprisoned and murdered Jews and Roma people there, they also followed their own agenda, imprisoning and murdering ethnic Serbs. The film portrays the overwhelming brutality of the camps and the wanton violence the Ustaše engaged in.

Disney’s decision to shut down Blue Sky animation studio confirms people’s worries about the studio’s purchase of Fox’s assets.

Disney sent shockwaves through the film industry when it finalized its purchase of Fox’s movie and TV assets in March 2019. However, as bold as the move was, it also raised legitimate concerns about the potential side effects of a major Hollywood player consolidating so many properties and smaller studios under a single roof. Now, if anything, the news that Disney is closing Blue Sky’s animation studio has validated much of what people were worried about when the Disney-Fox deal went through.

Admittedly, Disney’s decision to shut down Blue Sky is kind of predictable. After all, Blue Sky’s last film, 2019’s Spies in Disguise, was a commercial disappointment and even its Ice Age franchise has diminished in popularity since it peaked at the box office in 2009. What’s more, with Disney and Pixar Animation meeting the Mouse House’s demand for animated content, there wasn’t an obvious spot for Blue Sky in its present business model. As such, it’s no shock the relatively less successful former Fox animation studio has landed on the chopping block as a direct result of Disney’s financial losses over the past year due to the ongoing coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic .

Producer Joe Russo said the script for Disney’s live-action Hercules reboot is almost done and teased an experience that will last a decade.

Disney’s live-action remake of Hercules is moving along, as producer Joe Russo confirmed that the script was nearly finished and the movie will kickstart a potential franchise.

Speaking to the Lights Camera Barstool podcast, Russo offered an update on the project, which he is producing with his brother, Anthony. “It is still in development, the script is about to come in a week. We’ve taken a lot of time and care with it,” Joe Russo said.

Russo then went on to tease that, much like with the MCU, Disney hopes to build a franchise out of Hercules. “They want to see something really cool that they wanna get lost in it for a decade, so that’s our mission is to provide them with that experience,” Russo continued.

Soul of the Dragon centers on the story of Batman reuniting with the deadly assassins who were fellow students of the martial arts years prior in order to stop the deadly Kobra cult. The film is a love letter to the 1970s kung fu movie era, and in fact, Batman takes a back seat as characters like Richard Dragon and Lady Shiva take equally important roles in the narrative and combat sequences. The whole film is done with a sense of genre and style that stands out as bold and unique in comparison to many previous projects.
