Terminator

Before the role went to Arnold Schwarzenegger, there were many other actors considered for the role of the T-800 in Terminator.

The terminator is one of the most iconic roles in movie history. While it is hard to imagine anybody other than Arnold Schwarzenegger playing the emotionless, matter-of-fact killing machine, many other major Hollywood stars were considered for the role. Some of the names are more surprising than others, and some names are based on unsubstantiated rumors. Here is the list of known candidates as well as the evidence that connects each actor to the famous Terminator role.

Golden Globes

The 2021 Golden Globes elevated some kooky critical favorites, but also shunned several important Black films.

Since the Golden Globes are voted on by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (a tiny contingent of journalists) and not the Oscars’ Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (whose membership numbers in the thousands), the awards body’s tastes tend to be more unpredictable. And let’s just say things didn’t change in the pandemic movie and TV year of 2020.

So, with a mixed bag of nominations, let’s look at the ones that left awards season junkies soaring, sinking and just plain shrugging their shoulders.

Shazam 2

Variety has debunked recent rumors that Henry Cavill would be reprising his role as Superman in 2023’s Shazam! Fury of the Gods.

Recent online rumors have claimed that Henry Cavill would be reprising his role as Clark Kent/Superman in the 2023 DC Extended Universe film Shazam! Fury of the Gods. However, these reports have now been debunked.

Variety put the kibosh on rumors of Cavill’s return as the Man of Steel in the upcoming sequel to 2019’s Shazam!, confirming them to be false after speaking with “two sources with direct knowledge of the production and Cavill’s schedule.”

WandaVision

A WandaVision fan noticed a moment in the show’s latest episode that appears to be paying homage to Michael Fassbender’s Magneto in the X-Men films.

The latest episode of WandaVision offered a few answers and more than a few surprises, but some questions about the hit Disney+ series and its relationship to the rest of the Marvel Cinematic Universe are still hanging. Wanda’s family ties are still a matter of debate, but one subtle moment in the episode may be referencing a classic mutant villain from Marvel Comics — Magneto, the father of Wanda and Pietro Maximoff.

Twitter user Shruti Rao noticed that Wanda’s display of her powers when confronting the S.W.O.R.D. team outside of Westview bore a close resemblance to a gesture that Magneto, played by Michael Fassbender, made in X-Men: Dark Phoenix. The two scenes were captured in a gif for comparison and shared with the text, “like father, like daughter.”

Spider-Man 3

Willem Dafoe has reportedly been spotted on the set of Spider-Man 3, lending credence to the rumors that he may be returning as Norman Osborn.

A source at The GWW reports that Willem Dafoe was spotted on the set of the superhero film, and will play a role in the events of the film. Dafoe was reported to be reprising his role as Norman Osborn/Green Goblin by the Illuminerdi in December, alongside Hayden Thomas Church as Sandman. They would join Alfred Molina as Doctor Octopus, and potentially Tobey Maguire’s version of the web-slinger.
